Janae Matthews is one of the main characters in the Peacock original series, One Of Us Is Lying. They are portrayed by Jess McLeod.
A punk outsider who hates their fake classmates, Janae is left angry and alone when their only friend is murdered. Rather than simply grieve his death, they promise to honor his bitter legacy.
Biography[]
Janae befriended Simon at Bayview High, and they were the one who gave him the idea to start AboutThat. Later on, Janae would regret how far he went with the app. In junior year, they were hesitant to act on their crush on Maeve, so Simon made a move on her first. Drunk, angry, and hurt, they bought drugs from Nate and overdosed at a party. Nate calls an ambulance and saves them in time.

Season 1[]
We first see Janae in the pilot episode where they sing a song at a tribute to Simon. They make appearances in the first few episodes, and Addy tries to befriend Janae, however things go haywire when Addy assumes Janae fancied Simon, when in fact, Janae is a lesbian. However, they make up and Janae joins 'murder club', trying to find out what happened to Simon. Janae has a romance temporarily with Maeve, coming out as genderfluid in Season 2.
Personality[]
They are a rebel with no desire to conform. They hate most people, and find it hard to get along with them or open up. They aren’t afraid to stand up for themselves, and Janae's got a hard-edged manner much of the time with a dry, sarcastic wit.
Physical Appearance[]
Janae is fair-skinned and green-eyed, and has bleached blonde hair with black roots. Their hair is usually styled in a high bun with loose strands framing their face. They wear a nose ring, silver necklaces, and baggy clothes.
